Residential Dumpster Rental across West Michigan
Homes around Holland vary enough that one container does not fit them all. A tight driveway on an older street wants a 10 or a 15 set down carefully. A larger lot in the towns out along the lakeshore may have room for a 20 or a 30. For most home renovations and move-outs a 15 or 20 yard is the best balance of capacity and space, and the first question on the phone is what your driveway looks like.
Most residential jobs fall into one of a few groups: a cleanout (a garage, an attic, a basement, or a house before a move or downsizing), a remodel (kitchen, bath, flooring), a roof or DIY project, or the yard after landscaping or a storm. Each wants a different size and a different talk about weight. The size comparison covers the numbers, and the phone call covers your job.

What actually fills a residential container
Cleanouts lead the way: furniture, boxes, old decor and household junk from a garage, an attic, a basement or a whole house before a move. Remodels are next, with drywall, flooring, cabinets and fixtures from a kitchen, a bath or a basement upgrade. Then the outdoor jobs: shingles off a roof, branches, shrubs, soil and sod from a garden makeover or a storm.
The curbside alternative only goes so far. A roll-off takes the whole job in one go, instead of a run of small loads to the curb or the drop-off, and it keeps the pile off your lawn while you work.
Driveway placement, street rules and your town
The driveway comes first. A driveway, pad or other flat, hard surface works best, and protective boards can go under the rails on request. You can also lay plywood or boards under the contact points yourself. The truck needs about 60 feet of clear approach and about 25 feet of clearance overhead. If you will not be home, mark the spot with cones, tape or chalk, and send us a photo.
The street is another matter. In the City of Holland a refuse collector licence applies, and the City Council approves applicants; we check the City's rules before booking. We found no rule on dumpster placement in the City code we could read, so for any spot in a street we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. Elsewhere the street rule is written down too: Allegan's code sets right-of-way hours for placed receptacles, and whether they reach a rental roll-off is not confirmed, so we check the City's rules before any placement; Saugatuck's code bars non-portable receptacles from public property and rights-of-way; and Douglas's code bars depositing refuse in any street, right-of-way or alley. So the driveway comes first. MDOT requires a permit from anyone who wants to use state highway right-of-way for anything other than normal vehicle or pedestrian travel, so we keep containers out of the right-of-way of I-196, US-31, M-21, M-40, M-45 or any other state route. Each town page says what that town asks for.

Residential dumpster rental: the Michigan specifics
Michigan law bans certain things from landfills (MCL 324.11514): more than a de minimis amount of yard waste, whole tires, used oil, lead-acid batteries, regulated hazardous waste, bulk liquids, medical waste (with exceptions) and asbestos waste, unless the landfill meets the federal asbestos rule. Our own list keeps out the rest: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos, and fridges or A/C units that still hold refrigerant. Household paint and chemicals belong at a household hazardous waste collection, not in the container. On an older house, check the roof and flooring before they come off, because EGLE runs the federal asbestos rule (NESHAP) in Michigan. Residential dwellings of four units or less under private control are not subject to it, but other regulated demolitions need notice through EGLE's MiEnviro Portal at least ten working days before work starts, even when no asbestos is present. Asbestos never goes in our roll-offs. If you are unsure about an item, call before loading it.

Residential Dumpster Rental — your questions answered
Not covered here? Call (616) 344-9760 and ask.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We take precautions to help protect your property, and protective boards can go under the rails on request. If you are concerned, you can also place plywood or boards under the contact points before delivery. Tell us when you book so it is planned.
Can I put the dumpster on the street instead?
Only where the town allows it, and it is never the first plan. In Holland we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. Michigan state highway right-of-way is off limits without an MDOT permit, so we keep containers out of it. The driveway is always simpler.
Does my neighborhood association have a say?
It may. Association rules can cover containers on your lot, and we do not know your association's rules. Tell us about them when you book, along with any tight driveway or limited access, and we plan the delivery around them.
Can I put old appliances or a mattress in the dumpster?
A mattress, yes. Small non-hazardous appliances, yes. A fridge, freezer or A/C unit only once the refrigerant has been properly handled. Tell us what the appliance is when you book.
How long can I keep the container?
A standard rental period of 7 days, stated on your quote. Need longer? Call and we can often extend it for a daily or weekly fee. Finished early? Call and we arrange an early pickup.
