What Goes in a Dumpster in Holland, MI, and What Stays Out

Yes, load these

  • Household junk and furniture, including old mattresses.
  • Construction and renovation debris: wood, lumber and plywood, drywall, trim, doors and windows, cabinets, countertops and vanities, flooring, carpet and tile.
  • Roofing: shingles and roofing materials. They are heavy, so check the weight allowance.
  • Packaging and pallets.
  • Concrete, brick, asphalt, stone and dirt, within weight limits and usually in a 10 or 15 yard.
  • Small appliances that do not hold refrigerant. Ask if you are unsure.
  • Yard waste, covered in its own section below.

Metal, cardboard and construction materials can be separated for recycling. We work with local West Michigan disposal and recycling facilities to reduce landfill waste whenever possible.

No, keep these out

  • Paint, solvents, oils and fuel
  • Liquids and hazardous chemicals
  • Tires and batteries
  • Gas cylinders, propane tanks and other pressurized tanks
  • Medical waste
  • Asbestos
  • Appliances that hold refrigerant, such as fridges, freezers and AC units, unless they are properly prepared

Electronics such as TVs and computers are listed as restricted on our site, so call us before you load them. If you are unsure about any item, call before it goes in the box. A quick call now is easier than sorting a full box later.

Yard waste goes in its own load

Our yard waste dumpster rental takes tree branches and limbs, leaves and grass clippings, bushes, shrubs and hedge trimmings, soil, sod and mulch, weeds, roots, plants and small stumps. For most homes in Holland, a 15 or 20 yard works best for yard cleanup.

Keep out treated wood, pressure-treated lumber, plastic planters, fertilizers and chemicals, and bagged household trash. If your project mixes yard waste with other debris, call us and we will recommend the best dumpster for it.

Mixed loads and heavy materials

Yes, you can mix materials, but heavy materials should be discussed in advance so they do not push the load past its weight limit. Tell us what you have when you book.

An overfilled dumpster cannot be safely transported, so keep all debris below the top edge.

Frequently asked questions

Not covered here? Call (616) 344-9760 and ask.

Can I put a mattress in the dumpster?

Yes. Household junk, furniture and old mattresses can go in. Mattresses take up a lot of room, so allow for them when you choose a size.

Can I put a car battery or tires in the dumpster?

No. Batteries and tires are on our no list. Keep them out, and call us for advice on what to do with them.

Can I put yard waste in with my household trash?

Keep them separate. Yard waste goes in its own load, and bagged household trash is not accepted in it.

What about an old fridge or AC unit?

Appliances that hold refrigerant are not accepted unless they are properly prepared. Call us before you load one, and we will tell you what we can take.
