The 10 yard container in Holland

The 10 yard is the one we send when the job is one room, one garage or one weekend. At about 14 feet long and 7.5 feet wide it is our smallest container, so it suits tighter driveways and smaller lots around Holland and the lakeshore towns. It holds about 10 cubic yards, roughly three pickup truck loads or 50 to 70 standard trash bags.

Weight is where the 10 earns its place. Concrete, tile, asphalt, brick and rock reach the allowance long before the box looks full, so heavy material belongs in the smaller container. The weight allowance is 2 to 3 tons, depending on the debris. Tell us what is going in and we help you estimate it before the truck comes, so an overage does not catch you out.

Space needed

a flat, solid spot about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or lot, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck, and at least 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of wires and branches

Small remodels, cleanouts and the heavy stuff

A small kitchen or bathroom remodel, a single-room cleanout, a garage clear-out, a load of concrete, tile or rock, or a smaller roof tear-off with the weight checked first all fit a 10 yard. Household junk, furniture, drywall, flooring, wood and yard waste go in too, and a 10 is easy to back in on a driveway and easy to load over its 3.5-foot sides.

It is the right box when the material is dense and the room is tight. Heavy loads that need separate handling are the ones we talk through on the phone before the drop.

The weight line on a 10 yard

The allowance is 2 to 3 tons, depending on the debris, and your quote states it. Household junk rarely gets close. A 10 filled with concrete, dirt or shingles can, so spread the load evenly, keep everything below the top edge, and tell us about the heavy material. An overfilled container may not be legal or safe to haul. If a load goes over the allowance, the container may be weighed and an overage fee applies, which we explain in advance. The flat rate can include delivery, pickup, disposal and a standard rental period of 7 days, with no hidden fees.

On the road, Michigan law requires every vehicle to be built or loaded so its contents cannot drop, sift, leak, blow off or otherwise escape, and a load that is not completely enclosed has to be covered or fastened down (MCL 257.720).

Suitability

Is the 10 yard the right size for you?

Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.

Choose the 10 yard for

  • Small kitchen or bathroom remodels
  • One-room and garage cleanouts
  • Concrete, tile, asphalt, brick and rock, within the weight limit
  • Smaller roof tear-offs, with the weight checked first
  • Tight driveways and smaller lots

Pick a different size for

  • A whole-home cleanout, which is a 20 or 30
  • Bulky loads of furniture, which fill the room before the weight
  • Paint, fuel, oil, liquids, tires, batteries or asbestos
  • Pressurized tanks, and fridges or A/C units that still hold refrigerant

Placing a 10 yard container in Holland

It needs a flat, solid spot about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or lot, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck, and at least 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of wires and branches. The driveway comes first. In the City of Holland a refuse collector licence applies, and the City Council approves applicants; we check the City's rules before booking. We found no rule on dumpster placement in the City code we could read, so for any spot in a street we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. MDOT requires a permit from anyone who wants to use state highway right-of-way for anything other than normal vehicle or pedestrian travel, so we keep containers out of the right-of-way of I-196, US-31, M-21, M-40, M-45 or any other state route. Check any neighborhood association rules too. Protective boards can go under the rails on request. Each town page covers its own rules.

10 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked

Not covered here? Call (616) 344-9760 and ask.

How much space does a 10 yard dumpster need?

The container is about 14 feet long and 7.5 feet wide. Pick a flat, solid spot such as a driveway or pad, leave about 60 feet of clear approach for the truck, and check there are at least 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of wires and branches. Move cars, bins and trailers out of the way, and mark the spot if you will not be home. A spot in the street is a different question, and we check the City's rules before booking.

Can I put concrete in a 10 yard dumpster?

Yes, and the 10 is the right box for it. Heavy materials have weight limits for safe transport, so concrete, brick and dirt go in the smaller containers. Spread it evenly, keep it below the top edge, and tell us roughly how much there is. Heavy material mixed with household junk may need separate pricing, so check with us first.

How long do I get it for?

A standard rental period of 7 days, stated on your quote. If you need more time, call and we extend it for a daily or weekly fee that we explain before you agree to it. If it fills before the job is done, we can swap it. Finished early? Call and we arrange an early pickup.

How much does a 10 yard dumpster cost?

We do not publish a price list. You get a flat-rate quote on the phone, depending on the size, the debris, the location and the rental length. It can include delivery, pickup, disposal and the standard rental period, with no hidden fees. Call (616) 344-9760 with the address and what is going in.
